LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes will be conducting a special teacher workshop titled “Expulsion of Mexicans and Mexican Americans during the 1930’s: Implementing the CA History – Social Science Framework.”  The training will take place on Saturday, February 22, 9am to 1pm, at LA Plaza.

Over one million Mexicans and Mexican Americans were deported to Mexico from the United States during the Great Depression. Over sixty percent were U.S. citizens unconstitutionally deported.

Educators will learn about this violation of legal and human rights as well as the justice campaign on behalf of survivors and their families. Educators will be inspired to incorporate this important issue into their teaching programs as part of the new California History-Social Science Framework.

Guest Educators: Francisco Balderrama, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, CSU Los Angeles; Christine Valenciana, Ph.D., Associate Emeritus Professor, CSU Fullerton; and M. Guadalupe Espinoza, M.A., American Language program, CSU Fullerton.
