Anniversary of MLK’s death marked in Atlanta with film, almost forgotten
By: Ernie Suggs ~ Atlantic Journal Constitution ~ April 2, 2019
It was at about 6 p.m. on April 4, 1968 when Martin Luther King Jr. stepped out onto the balcony of Memphis’ Lorraine Motel and was gunned down by a sniper.
And it’s around that time, more than a half century later, that multitudes around the nation will commemorate the death of the world’s preeminent civil rights leader.
At 6 p.m. Thursday, thousands of people are expected to gather at 100 AMC Theatres across the country for a free screening of a documentary that has been shown only once before.

As Trump makes border visit, leaders from California and Mexico discuss pollution
By: Jazmine Ulloa ~ L.A. Times ~ April 5, 2019
As President Trump makes his third visit to California on Friday to tour the border in Calexico, state lawmakers and Mexican leaders will meet at another end of the state’s southern boundary to discuss what they see as a crisis in the border region: high levels of air and water pollution.
The inaugural event in Imperial Beach, which includes a series of conversations with top-level government officials on both sides of the border, will mark the launch of the California-Mexico Strategic Dialogue initiative, a new effort led by Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) to forge working relationships on key issues such as climate change, immigration and trade.

By: Aileen Teague ~ Government Executive ~ April 5, 2019
“Mexico and the United States are allies, not enemies. The way I see it, pushing Mexico and other nations to do America’s bidding on highly complex problems like drug control and migration simply produces more antagonism while failing to achieve the desired results.”
