SACRAMENTO.- El senador por California, Kevin de León, pidió a los distritos escolares que incluyan la historia del Programa Bracero en sus programas y planes de estudio.

Luego en entrevista exclusiva con El Latino, dijo que la legislatura de California empujará al Congreso Federal buscando apruebe una reforma migratoria integral.
El Senador Kevin de León, de ascendencia latina, presentó en su exposición de motivos de la propuesta el hecho de que, dijo: “La historia del Programa Bracero ha sido frecuentemente ignorada y excluida de los libros escolares, a pesar del impacto que el programa tuvo en el mercado laboral de Estados Unidos durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y en las tendencias de inmigración en este país”.
Recuerda asimismo que el Programa Bracero fue un plan de trabajadores huéspedes establecido a través de una serie de acuerdos bilaterales entre Estados Unidos y México que pretendía cubrir la escasez de mano de obra estadounidense durante los años de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Este anteproyecto, SB 993, sostiene en la exposición de motivos, hará que las escuelas incluyan instrucción sobre los impactos del Programa Bracero en el sistema ferroviario, la agricultura y la inmigración en los Estados Unidos y rige un mandato para incluir un componente historial de testimonio personal del Bracero.
En entrevista telefónica, de León recordó que “5 millones de mexicanos dejaron, entonces, sus lugares de origen, sus pueblos y a sus familias para cumplir un acuerdo legal” y por tanto, consideró, como injusta ‘la indemnización’ que a más seis décadas les entregó el gobierno mexicano, por intermediación del Congreso azteca.
Dijo que la acción del gobierno federal estadounidense no debe seguir siendo la deportación de millones de indocumentados, que aquí tienen sus raíces y contribuyen a la economía, sino la aprobación de una reforma migratoria integral.
El legislador demócrata representa el 22 Distrito (cubriendo parte del Condado de Los Angeles, Alambra, sur de Pasadena y Hollywood, entre otras ciudades).
